The Tree of Life at Animal Kingdom is the 145-foot-tall baobab tree that is the centerpiece of Disney’s Animal Kingdom. It features carvings of animals around the trunk and branches of the tree.

The Tree of Life stands 145 feet tall and is the Animal Kingdom park icon. When you enter the park and walk into Discovery Island you see this first. It’s a beautiful sight to see and you will never forget it.

What type of tree is the Tree of Life?

While the tree itself is not real, it is based off a real tree called the baobab tree. The Tree of Life is actually made from a reimagined oil rig. The tree took 18 months to create by ten artists working with three Disney Imagineers.

How Many Animals are on the Tree of Life?

You will find 325 amazing carvings of animals in the Tree of Life. Each full of detail and beauty. You can even find a hidden Mickey on the tree. If you find the hippo you can see it near there.

Can you go inside the Tree of Life?

Yes, you actually can go inside! To the right of the tree, you will find the entrance to the attraction It’s Tough to be a Bug and the theater is inside the tree.

Discovery Island Trails:

The perfect place to get up close to the tree is in the Discovery Island Trails which you can enter to the left side of the tree right across from Creature Comforts. You can see on the map all the trails around the tree. It’s the perfect place to get up close to the tree, get pictures without a crowd, and even see some real animals.

When walking along these you will find animal exhibits. Through the trails you may be able to find white storks, otters, red kangaroos, West African cranes, Galapagos tortoise, lemurs, and vultures.

Taking a stroll along these trails is one of my favorite things to do in Animal Kingdom. You can see close ups of the waterfall on the back side of the tree.

Winged Encounters:

One of the most underrated shows in Animal Kingdom is located right in front of the Tree of Life. Animal Encounters: Winged Encounters – The Kingdom Takes Flight is the ultimate bird watching experience as you get to watch these colorful bird fly right overhead. Macaws will take flight overhead, and it is truly a sight to behold.
