Tom Sawyer Island is the hidden hideaway based on Mark Twain’s beloved hero. Take a wooden raft across the river to the island and explore Tom Sawyer’s Island!

Tom Sawyer Island is a fun exploration of the places from Mark Twain’s Classic Novel the Adventures of Tom Sawyer. You take a wooden riverboat across from Frontierland to the Island.
Prepare for a trek and a lot of walking around the Island. There are some dark caves and buildings to walk through ass well. Don’t forget to go all the way down to the fort!
2025 Update:
Tom Sawyer’s Island has officially closed. It is permanently closed for the expansion of two new areas in the Magic Kingdom. Currently, we will see the Beyond Big Thunder Mountain, which will feature a brand-new Cars themed land. We also will see the highly anticipated Villains Land coming to Magic Kingdom as well.
Location:
Located in Frontierland at Disney’s Magic Kingdom. Board the riverboats near Big Thunder Mountain. It is typically open from 11am until 6pm. The rafts may not operate during inclement weather, so check the Disney My Experience App on the day you are at Magic Kingdom, just to be sure.

What to do:
Once landing on the Tom Sawyer Island you can explore caves and buildings. Play on the playground and explore dusty trails that reflect the era of Mark Twain and Tom Sawyer.
To get to the island you need to take a log raft over. You will take this same raft back once you are done exploring. There is only one loading dock.
Tom Sawyer Island is a self-guided tour, and you can explore the island at your own pace. When you arrive check out the map to see what all they have to offer and where to go.
You can even cross a bridge to a play area that looks like a fort.
Sit back and relax on rocking chairs. This is the perfect place to get away from the crowds during the day.
They even have picnic areas. If you are packing a lunch, it’s a great place to stop and eat that is not busy.

Lightning Lane:
Nope there is no Lightning Lane here. You just get on a boat and free roam the island for as long as you want.
Height And Age:
There are no height restrictions at this attraction nor any age restrictions. We enjoy this area more with children who can easily walk and climb since there is a lot of uneven trails.

Handicapped Accessibility:
The raft is handicapped accessible, but this is not a place for a wheelchair. Disney’s website says, “Must be ambulatory.” There are a lot of steep hills and stairs to climb, so if a person has to stay in a wheelchair, it will be difficult to get around.
Ride Review:
exploring this island could take a lot of time so be prepared fir that. they have playgrounds, caves, picnic areas, it’s lots of fun but if you only have a day in MK this area could take up a lot of your time.
