Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto is the Polynesian Resort’s version of a Speakeasy. Open from 3pm until midnight, and it becomes adults only after 8pm.

Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto is one of the hottest and best bars to try to get into at Disney. Located at the Polynesian Resort in the “back alley” of the main floor past all the shops and restaurants. I like to personally think of Trader Sam’s as Disney’s Speakeasy. People get on the waitlist for this hours before the bar opens. It is very difficult to get in and once it is filled the waitlist could be hours long.
Come to enjoy one of the delicious Island-inspired drinks in a collectible souvenir mug or glass or the Nautilus ship!
Is Trader Sam’s really a Speakeasy?
During the prohibition bars were illegal. So, soda shops and other restaurants and establishments often has secret, underground bars called Speakeasy’s. They were secret places to get a drink, open late at night and generally needed a password to get into them. Nowadays, the Speakeasy trend, is more of a trendy way to theme a small bar.
Trader Sam’s is Disney’s version of a Speakeasy. A large door stays closed, and a Cast Member lets you in.
The Menu:
Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto and Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace are the same menu, but one is the indoor and theme and the other is the outdoor bar/patio pictured below. Enjoy some appetizers like sushi rolls or some awesome dumplings or tacos. The drinks are amazing, and probably the best drink menu on property.
Please note: Menu Items are up to date as of the date of this post. The menu and specials and prices are subject to change.
The Appetizers:
From the Tuna Roll to the Veggie Roll there are some great apps to enjoy here. The Dumplings are amazing, and the Pork Tacos are awesome too!

The Drinks:
The drinks here are why everyone comes. Before 8pm bring the kids to try some of Sam’s No-Booze Brews like the Schweitzer Falls drink named after the famous explorer, Dr. Albert Falls, who found the waterfall found on the Jungle Cruise.

The Specialty Cocktails:
The specialty drinks here are some of Disney’s best drinks on property. Most of them are offered in a souvenir mug that does cost extra, but you can also purchase the drink without the souvenir mug.

The beer and cider menu is the same as most of Disney’s bars.

There are some sparkling and white wines available.

There are a few red wine options available as well.

Final Review:
Trader Sam’s is a great place for a drink. There may not be much food available here, but what is available is good. If you can get in, we highly recommend it. The Tiki Bar vibes are so fun, and the atmosphere and staff are amazing. The theming is great, and has a lot of fun Jungle Cruise references to be found.
